Bath re-enamelling for California homes

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in California

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Whether it’s a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and a coloured bath you want in white, we can help, whatever the material.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for California. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

When a repair is not the answer

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths

Common problems we fix in California

Previous coatings can fail too, peeling around the waste or bubbling. We strip what’s failing and start again.

People generally call us when they notice one of these:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • A coating lifting around the plughole

10 questions to ask before you book

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Access to the area
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Quotes from your pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Upload pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your IP13 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

California: your questions answered

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work that clears as it cures.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Do you work in California?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to California and the rest of Suffolk. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

Look after it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

How it works

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. On site, it takes a full day. The room is left tidy and you will know when it can be used.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Ensure the area is dry

Getting a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.
