Bath re-enamelling for Caputh homes

About our bath re-enamelling in Caputh

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. We regularly repair cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What a repair can’t fix

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

What affects the price in Caputh

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Access to the area
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How many areas need work
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from photos

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Landlord and trade work in Caputh

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Caputh use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it generally costs far less than a refit.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Clear the area around the damage

Common problems we fix in Caputh

Older baths frequently have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

Choosing a repair company

Caputh: your questions answered

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. If there’s more, we’ll tell you before starting.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Generally one day, with the bath ready the day after. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.
