Bath re-enamelling near Grafton

Should you replace it?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the entire room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Bath re-enamelling in Grafton without replacing anything

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. Our technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people get in touch are chips and rust in more than one place and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Store bottles off the bath

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Grafton: your questions answered

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Generally one day, with the bath ready the day after. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Grafton?

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Grafton

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

The things customers typically mention when they call are:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough

What your quote should include

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Who will actually do the work
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show

Our hiring checklist

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A metal bath with a through crack

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Materials we work on in Grafton

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

What happens on the day

Once we are through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes a full day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Open a window if you can
