Bath re-enamelling in Red Craig

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Red Craig

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is generally the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Common call-outs are for chips and rust in more than one place and a coating lifting around the plughole, on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we will sort it.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. You’ll know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether we combine several jobs

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

You can normally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Red Craig questions

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out.

Which areas do you work in?

The entire UK, including all of Moray. Just include your postcode and we will offer you dates.

How long does re-enamelling last?

Look after it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

What happens after I send photos?

You will get a fixed quote back. There is no obligation to book.

Repairing versus replacing in Red Craig

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Prices start from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Our hiring checklist

The process

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. It normally takes a full day.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

How to prepare

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Related advice

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
