Bath re-enamelling in St Madoes without replacing anything

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. If you’re dealing with brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and chips and rust in more than one place, we can normally put it right, on cast iron baths, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

When to call us in St Madoes

Frequently the bath has just had decades of use. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean

Comparing quotes

  • What happens if they find more damage
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

How to compare quotes

What happens on the day

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It usually takes the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Questions from St Madoes

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK, so St Madoes is covered. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Landlord and trade work in St Madoes

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Repair or replace in St Madoes?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why us?

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
