When we’d advise against a repair

A repair is not right for every job, for example:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Wester Balgedie

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Typical jobs include lots of chips and rust spots and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, across acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Wester Balgedie as everywhere else we work.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Wester Balgedie. The price reflects:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • What the surface is made of

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Send pictures for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Where you are, by postcode

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Wester Balgedie

Frequently the bath has just had decades of use, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is generally as strong as ever.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Wear marks under the taps

How to compare quotes

Repair or replace: which is better?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Prices start from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Why book with us

  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • No need to remove anything
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It generally takes a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Make sure the area is dry

Common questions in Wester Balgedie

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Will the new finish last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Do you cover Wester Balgedie?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Wester Balgedie. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses in Wester Balgedie.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.
