What your bath or shower is made of matters

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Common questions in Cowbar

How long will it take?

Typically a couple of hours, plus curing time.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

We always remove the old sealant completely. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.

Do you come to Cowbar?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Cowbar and the rest of Redcar and Cleveland. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can tenants book a repair?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Cowbar. Our prices are the same everywhere.

How long before I can shower?

Normally about a day later. We will tell you the exact time.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Movement is the usual cause. We seal baths full of water.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

Is resealing worth it?

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is and protects the walls and floor. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures

The process

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. It typically takes about two hours for a bath, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Getting ready for the visit
