Bath re-enamelling at your home in Gwespyr

We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We’re often asked to fix wear marks under the taps and a coating lifting around the plughole, across pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and acrylic baths.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it.

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Never use suction bath mats

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse off any bath products.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair is not always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Re-enamelling is one technician, typically one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Gwespyr

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

When to call us in Gwespyr

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

Look out for these signs:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Wear marks under the taps

Common questions in Gwespyr

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Will the new finish last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Flintshire.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Are there extra charges for Gwespyr?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send photos.

What we do, step by step

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we are there. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes most of the day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s normally ready the next day.

Getting ready for the visit
