Bath re-enamelling near Mayals

About our bath re-enamelling in Mayals

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. If you’re dealing with thin, worn enamel in places and an outdated colour you’d like to change, we can help.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Mayals

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

How long is the bath unusable?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

What information do you need?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Do you cover Mayals?

We do. We send a technician to Mayals for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

What happens after I send photos?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

What a repair cannot fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

How to look after the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Mayals?

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

10 questions to ask before you book

Repair or replace: which is better?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the following day. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Why book with us

  • No need to remove anything
  • Colour-matched on site
  • A fixed quote before booking
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year

Read our prices page or bath cost comparison.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The colour and finish to match
  • The material and finish
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Quotes from your photos

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Any details about the material

Send us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you’re in Mayals, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

The process

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.
