Florence: your questions answered
Is my repair covered?
All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.
Can you do more than one item on the same visit?
Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.
Does re-enamelling smell?
Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.
What areas do you cover?
Everywhere in the UK, Florence included. Travel is included in the price.
Do the materials smell?
There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.
What happens if you find more damage?
We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.
Is it messy?
Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.
Bath re-enamelling in Florence without replacing anything
We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, and we take our time over it. We’re often asked to fix a bath in a colour that no longer suits and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, in cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.
All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Different materials, different repairs
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

What bath re-enamelling costs
Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed price from pictures. This is what makes a difference:
- The type of damage
- Unusual colours or finishes
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- What the surface is made of
The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.
Getting a price from photos
Two or three clear photos are generally enough. Try to include:
- The material, if you know it
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
- Natural light rather than flash
- A picture taken from further back
Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.
Keeping it looking good
So the finish stays in good condition:
- Have chips seen to early
- Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.
Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.
Honest limits
Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:
- A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
- Holes rusted through the metal
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

How it works
It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, then carry out the work, which generally takes a full day. If anything looks different from your pictures, we will talk to you before going ahead.
- We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
- Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.
Before we arrive
- Let the surface dry out before the visit
- Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
- Open a window if you can

Advice
Should I try a DIY kit first?
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.
For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.
Repair or replace: which is better?
Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the entire room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Common problems we fix in Florence
Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, and only the surface is worn. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.
Keep an eye out for these signs:
- Thin, worn enamel in places
- A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
- Several chips and rust patches
- An old resurfacing that’s failing
Before booking anyone
- Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
- How the room is protected while they work
- Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
- How soon you can use it again
