How non-slip bath coating works in Birmingham
It’s a clear, textured coating, so the bath looks much the same. It’s popular with homes with older or less mobile people, holiday lets and families. We regularly repair wet room floors (ask us), resurfaced baths and enamelled baths, and the jobs we see most are bath mats that harbour mould or get forgotten and resurfaced baths that are now too smooth.
We begin by going over the job with you. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. Allow a morning or an afternoon.
- First the standing area is cleaned and degreased.
- We mask out the area to be treated.
- We apply the clear textured coating.
- We remove the masking for a neat edge.
- We leave it to cure, typically overnight.
Prices in Birmingham
No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
Why choose Surface Doctor
- CHAS and Constructionline accredited
- One-year guarantee on every repair
- A fixed quote before you book
- Same prices wherever you are
Ask for a price
There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.
Landmarks near Birmingham
Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to Birmingham and Midland Institute, Chandos Primary School and St David's Church. Nearby too are Birmingham Independent School of Performing Arts (0.6 miles south-east), Ark St Alban's Academy (under half a mile south), Highgate Park (within half a mile east) and Queens Arms (less than half a mile south). The nearest railway station is Birmingham New Street station, about 0.6 miles north-west of the centre. Nearby you will also find Bromwich Castle (5 miles north-east) and Bull Ring (0.5 miles north). Not far away are Deer's Leap Wood and Edgbaston Pool.
- Local facilities include Sparkbrook and Small Heath (0.9 miles south-east)
Prices and what affects them
There is no area surcharge for Birmingham. What changes the price is:
- The material
- Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
- Access to the area
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
Getting a price from photos
We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- The material, if you know it
Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.
Should I try a DIY kit first?
If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.
For landlords and businesses
We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Birmingham as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it usually costs far less than a refit.
Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.
Repairing versus replacing
The alternatives are replacing the bath or tray with a textured one, or relying on a mat, which traps water and needs cleaning. A non-slip coating treats your existing bath or tray.
Questions to ask before booking
- What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
- How the colour is matched
- Whether a trained technician does the job
- How long it needs to cure
What a repair can’t fix
We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:
- Surfaces that are already damaged or peeling (these need repairing first)
- Textured areas still wet or recently cleaned with oily products
- Outdoor surfaces
Questions from Birmingham
Are you a vetted contractor?
Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.
How do I clean it?
Yes. A soft brush and mild cleaner is all it needs.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.
Do the materials smell?
Expect a mild smell while we are working.
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send pictures.
What happens if you find more damage?
If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.
Is it safe with children and pets around?
We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.
